Android Tablet Programming Class at AnDevCon III

This post is for anyone attending the  Hands-On Android Tablet Programming class at AnDevCon. Below are the details about the class that should get you up to date.

Beginner-to-Intermediate Level

Please note, this class is not an introduction to Android. It is a beginner-to-intermediate level class in which I expect that you have a beginner level of Android experience already under you belt. I’ll be there to answer questions, help, etc, but please remember, we will not be covering the basics of Android in depth. If you are NOT that familiar with Android (or would like a re-introduction to it) I advise that you complete the Notepad Tutorial, located here: http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/notepad/index.html.

This class will move VERY VERY FAST. We have a little over three hours to cover the same material we covered last year in 6 hours. So be prepared to hustle! 🙂

During the class, you will receive a set of labs as well as a set of solution files that you can use to compare your work against. We will be creating an app during class that shows some basic use of Fragments, views Action Bar and a few other items.

Please Arrive Prepared

This class is a Hands-on Training class. Meaning that you will need your laptop with you. You can use OSX, Linux or Windows. I recommend OSX or Windows as thats where all of my experience exists within. You will need the following items installed BEFORE CLASS:

Android SDK

Eclipse

Android ADT Tools for Eclipse

If you do not have these items installed on your own laption please follow the installation instructions located here: http://developer.android.com/sdk/installing.html to install these items.

We will be working with ANDROID SDK Level 11. Please have that installed. You can have additional versions of Android installed, but we will be targeting version code 11 (you can target later versions if you wish to forge your own path though).

Please note, I WILL NOT taking the time to install the tools during class. Please come prepared! If you do not have a laptop, I will not be providing you with a workstation. Please bring your own laptop to work on. If you do not have a laptop to work on, you will not get much out of this class, this is a hands on class (very similar to other training classes you may have taken at various training vendors in your area).

Break

We will be taking one to two breaks through the course. However they will be about 10 minute long.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
